My story

[p]UPDATE, 24th Sep, 2021[/p][p]On Sunday 19th Sep, I completed the Scottish Half Marathon carrying a 102lbs bergan in the hope of not only breaking the current 100lbs record (3:16:36) but also in the hope of completing the course in under the current 80lbs WR time(2:30:00). All was going to plan until the 10mile point when the right hand side shoulder strap and waist belt ripped from the bottom of my bergan so I had to run the last 3miles with only the left shoulder strap in place taking most of the weight.[/p][p]My time as record by the organisers was 2:11:38 which is a new unofficial WR for both the 100lbs & 80lbs WRs until Guinness make it official.[/p][p]A BIG Thank you to everyone that has left messages of support and donated to this page as the RMC & Children With Cancer UK will now be able to continue with the real work that is so desperately needed.[/p][p]Thank you all again.[/p][p]Collin[/p][p][br][/p][p]UPDATE, 5th Sep 2021[/p][p]I have just completed the 60lbs World Record attempt this morning, at the Southampton Half Marathon. [/p][p]The time that I had to smash was 2hrs 10min 33seconds, if I was to be successful. The new World Record time is now 1hr 54min 34seconds, as of 1103hrs today.[/p][p]Only 2 weeks to go now until the 100lbs World Record attempt, on the 19th Sep at the Scottish Half Marathon in Edinburgh. [/p][p]Collin[/p][p][br][/p][p]UPDATE, 5th Aug 2021[/p][p]After some long soul searching and with the progress that I have made during trainning I have decided to up the anti![/p][p][br][/p][p]I will now be attempting to break the 3 WR’s in 6 weeks and not 3 months as originally planned. The first attempt will now take place on 5th Sep during the Southampton Half Marathon. I will be breaking the current 60lbs record followed 2 weeks later by breaking the 100lbs WR during the Scottish Half Marathon in Edinburgh. The location for the 80lbs WR is still to be finalised.[/p][p][br][/p][p]I will be breaking the current 3 World Records for the Quickest Half Marathon carrying a 100lbs bergan, 80lbs bergan and 60lbs bergan all within 3months starting 19th September, 2021.[/p][p]I have chosen these records as they all should be held by a RM or former RM, and because age should not be used as a limiting factor by others when placing limits upon you (not to mention a full on mid life crisis).[/p][p]I have been training for these records for the last 18months with every event that I have entered up to now being cancelled due to COVID, which has made training difficult to maintain. I am currently entered into the Scottish Half Marathon for the first record attempt (100lbs bergan, 19th Sep, 2021). [/p][p]I have selected two charities for the following reasons:[/p][p]I am a former RM and have been lucky enough not to have required any help from the Royal Marines Charity, however not all my fellow Royal Marines are in this position. This is a way that I can still help my extended serving and former RM family.[/p][p]Children With Cancer UK help with research, treatment and support for families that find themselves with children diagnosed with cancer. No more needs to be said.[/p][p]I am a bit of an endurance event nut, my wife likes to call me a lunatic in that respect because I like a challenge and don't like to make things easy for myself. I originally intended to only break the 100lbs bergan carry world record but then decided why not do all 3, this will certainly be a challenge and won't be that easy.[/p][p] Any money that you can donate will help improve the chances of survival for children that find themselves fighting against cancer and serving/former Royal Marines that have served their country and now need help as a result.[/p][p]Thank you for taking time out to read this and for your help,[/p][p]Collin[/p][p][br][/p]
