My story

[p]I lost my brother-in-law, Martin, to a very aggressive form of blood cancer, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, 8 years ago. I was therefore devastated when my lovely friend Jo Calder told me she had acute myeloid leukemia and would need immediate chemotherapy treatment. After months of treatment, Jo's only hope was a stem cell transplant and she had to wait to find a match. Anthony Nolan is a charity that matches individuals willing to donate their blood stem cells or bone marrow to people like Jo. She was given only 2 months to live and desperately needed this lifesaving transplant. Anthony Nolan also carry out research to improve the success rates of these transplants and offer invaluable support to those affected with a blood cancer. [/p][p]I know that I also would have lost my friend Jo if she had not had a transplant and been saved by an incredible individual who donated his blood stem cells. [/p][p]Jo is now a passionate advocate for Anthony Nolan and is able to help many others waiting for a transplant by sharing her first-hand knowledge on the procedure, the importance of post-transplant care as well as the emotional support needed for both patient and families. [/p][p]I feel very privileged to run the London Marathon in 2020 for such an amazing life-saving charity. [/p]
