My story

[p]On 17 Oct 2020, I will be running 100 km across the county of Oxfordshire following the Oxfordshire Way in an event I'm calling the 'Cross-Ox 100'. The aim of the Cross-Ox 100 is to raise money for Lowland Rescue Oxfordshire.[/p][p]Lowland Rescue Oxfordshire is a voluntary Search and Rescue team that assists Thames Valley Police in searching for high risk, vulnerable missing people. The team is made up of 100% volunteers that are on call 365 days a year and attended over 80 call-outs in 2019.[/p][p]I have been involved with Search and Rescue since 2013 and my main role within the team is as a search dog handler with my search dog 'Beau'. As well as a search dog unit, Lowland Rescue Oxfordshire also has foot search, water/bank search and a drone search capability. Our dedicated volunteers train to recognised national standards to allow them to provide a professional and highly trained search and rescue resource to the Police. As well as providing missing person search, the team also provides flood access capabilities and contributes towards Oxfordshires local resilience plans.[/p][p]The team receives no central funding and relies solely on donations to allow us to continue our vital work. £10 could buy a torch for use on night searches. £25 could purchase a harness for one of our search dogs. £100 would pay for a full tank of fuel for our Incident Control Vehicle. £400 would pay for a dry suit for one of our Swift-water Rescue Technicians. Any donation of any amount will mean that we can continue to respond to call-outs and help return a families loved one to a place of safety.[/p][p]You can keep up to date with the Cross-Ox 100 by joining the Facebook group - simply search 'Cross-Ox 100'. Here you will find pictures and videos of the run up to and during the event.[/p]
