Team story

[p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p]The Disabled Sailing Association (charity number 3331110) is based in the beautiful English Riviera a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Registered as a charity in 2006 with the aim of enabling the disabled and their families affordable access to the life changing opportunities yachting brings, our Patron is Sir Chay Blyth CBE BEM. [/p][p][br][/p][p]The Eddystone Charity Sailing Pursuit a 26 mile course in a maximum of eight hours fun challenge, it’s not a race it’s the taking part that wins from Plymouth to the Eddystone Lighthouse. “This is a truly corinthian event designed to raise money for charities nominated by the individual yachts which enter. The charities supported must “benefit the human condition” and have a Registered Charity Number.”[/p][p][br][/p][p]The DSA’s two yachts are both entered in the individual pursuit category however to enable us to potentially access an additional prize fund of £2600, there is also a 3 yacht team category our team yachts are our own FREEDOM, FREE SPIRIT and privately owned ZIG ZAG. You can register your own yacht to raise even more money for our charity in this event and select us as the chosen charity. The DSA’s newest yacht is a brand new in 2018 ‘A’ class Beneteau ‘Oceanis’ 38.1. Noticeably bigger than both ‘Free Spirit’ and her predecessor, she offers increased cockpit space for more guests and crew than we could previously accommodate as well as being significantly more spacious below decks.[/p][p][br][/p][p]FREE SPIRIT.[/p][p]Skippered and crewed by DSA members. New in 2015 and was purchased by the DSA following two years of fund-raising by our members, with an added boost from ITV Big Lottery People’s Millions. She was a brand new ‘A’ class Hanse 345 capable of crossing the Atlantic.[/p][p][br][/p][p]ZIG ZAG.[/p][p]Roger Baker, who has been a skipper with the DSA for some 6 years, has offered to enter his yacht, Zig Zag of Dartmouth to make a third boat representing the DSA. She is a Sadler/Bowman Starlight 39 and will be crewed by Associate Members of the DSA.[/p][p]Member participants[/p][p] Martin[/p][p] John[/p][p] Anne[/p][p] Anthony[/p][p] Alec[/p][p] Barry[/p][p] Linda[/p][p] Hugh[/p][p] Joe[/p][p] Dave[/p][p] Adam[/p][p] Monica[/p][p] Roger[/p][p] Ray[/p][p]We are sure that there will be keen competition between our 3 yachts for bragging rights of quickest time to finish, but of course it’s not a race![/p][p][br][/p][p]Please support all our crews for as much as you can afford, the more you donate the more it builds points for us to go towards our final prize money allocations of Trust prizes.
