My story

[p]When I was 3 years old, my grandmother passed away from cancer. The suddenness of the ordeal was a shock to my whole family. At the time, I was too young to understand the grief that they went through. When I was 16, my best friend’s mum also passed away from cancer. At that point, I was much more aware of the impact that had and just how draining it can be to the person suffering and the people closest to them.[/p][p]If my encounters with incurable illnesses have taught me anything, it’s that every moment matters. [/p][p]When both my grandmother and my best friend’s mum required end-of-life care, The Mary Stevens Hospice were there for them. Not only did they enable those loved ones to have the best quality of life possible, they were also there for the affected families. [/p][p]The compassion, the love, the kindness – it’s the holistic level of care that all of us would want if we ever found ourselves in need of it.[/p][p]Throughout my life, I have had (and will always have) touch-points with Mary Stevens Hospice at life’s most challenging moments. The hospice is a pillar of my local community, and I’m sure that I speak on behalf of that community when I say that we could never thank them enough for the support they provide.[/p][p]On Sunday 28th April 2019, I’ll be absolutely honoured to step out onto the start line of the London Marathon donning a Mary Stevens Hospice vest. It’s a privilege to be representing the charity and it’s even more of a privilege to be raising money for them.[/p][p]None of this support is possible without donations. Please – whether it’s a pound or a tenner – give whatever you can.[/p]
