My story

[p]I am running the London Marathon in memory of my inspirational sister Claire.[/p][p]Growing up, Claire and I were very close as she was only 13 months younger and most people thought we were twins. We used to play together, fight one another and get in trouble together. I was pretty laid back whilst she was the go-getting fiesty one, so we balanced out quite well. Some years later my little sis Katie came along and they became the best of friends. [/p][p]Claire was passionate, confident, independent, caring, thoughtful and loving. She would do anything for her friends and family.[/p][p]When we say Claire really lived life to the full, we’re not kidding. After graduating with a degree in Hospitality she travelled the world for the best part of 10 years which included Australia, India, Europe, South East Asia and the Caribbean to name a few. She always had a sense of adventure, zest for life and was fearless, which I always admired. [/p][p]In 2014 Claire finally got a job in the UK that she loved, though she quit after a year as she had a burning desire to backpack across South America, which she of course did for 5 months. [/p][p]A year after returning, she finally settled into a flat with Katie and found another job she loved. We were estactic that she finally came home and we could all spend more time with her. [/p][p]However, in September 2017 we were all devastated when Claire was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer – Cholangiocarcinoma; cancer of the bile duct. Claire was at stage 4 of this cancer but was determined to fight this cancer head on. She underwent chemotherapy, an American drug trial and heavily researched how she could fight this. She had an amazing support network from her friends and family, especially our Mum and Dad. [/p][p]She wrote a blog about her experience, which showcased her resilience and hoped this would help others too so please have a read - https://mycjourneyblog.wordpress.com -[/p][p]Claire tirelessly fought this awful cancer for 16 months but died in December 2018 at the young age of 36. She inspired us all with her bravery and taught us to have courage, embrace life and all it has to offer.[/p][p]Claire felt passionately about raising money for AMMF and specifically asked that people donated to AMMF rather than send flowers for her funeral and this raised over £12k. [/p][p]AMMF is the UK's only cholangiocarcinoma charity. Their main aims are to raise the awareness of cholangiocarcinoma, to provide information, and to support specialised research teams in their work to find the causes, methods of earlier diagnosis and treatments for this disease.[/p][p]I have applied for a ballot place in the London Marathon for the last 5 years and each time have been unsuccessful as I've felt no real connection to run for a charity. The charity I now feel the most passionate about is AMMF and I want to raise money to assist them in the fantastic work they do in raising awareness, helping the friends and familes of people suffering from this awful disease and hopefully one day finding a cure. I do not want more people to go through the pain Claire did.[/p][p]As AMMF only get ONE London Marathon place once every FIVE years, I want to maximise the amount raised as the money goes towards such an amazing cause. Please donate generously. [/p][p][br][/p]
