My story

[p]What Am I Doing?[/p][p]Early on Friday 13th September 2019 (oooo ominous!) I will be setting off from London on a 260 mile + cycle ride for 3 days. The end goal is to reach the centre of Paris sometime on Sunday 15th September. [/p][p]Why Am I Doing It?[/p][p]I am fundraising for a charity called IJM (International Justice Mission). This charity strives to get kids, women, young parents, elderly individuals, any one at risk of indentured servitude, out of debt bonded slavery. https://www.ijm.org/sites/default/files/download/resources/Factsheet-Forced-Labor-Slavery.pdf[/p][p]"INTERNATIONAL JUSTICE MISSION is the largest casework-based anti-slavery organisation in the world and seeks to protect the poor from violence throughout the developing world. IJM partners with local authorities to rescue victims of violence, bring criminals to justice, restore survivors and strengthen justice systems."[/p][p]Why Should You Donate? (if you are able to)[/p][p]Because most of us in the Western World take our freedom for granted. It's the one commodity many of us forget about, but we have it in abundance. We have the freedom to choose which coffee we go for in the morning, what clothes we put on for work, what restaurant to dine at on the weekend. Unfortunately for many in developing countries, their freedom is not a given, their choices are not their own, their poverty is forced upon them and their living is dictated by their abusers.[/p][p]This is where IJM come in. (cue the trailers below...)[/p][p]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKXSKJrOxbI[/p][p]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPbCGwpdHFs [/p][p]If I manage to raise my target of £1000, this amounts to the cost of a month of direct aftercare for survivors, including immediate and ongoing medical care, counselling, education and vocational training.[/p][p]£1000 is an ambitious target so i've decided if I reach this milestone before the 13th September, I will do the cycle with a 20kg vest on. Whilst I know this is a slightly ridiculous addition to the challenge, this is nothing in comparison to the weight that women and children carry everyday in India's brick kilns.[/p][p]https://www.ijm.org/news/ijm-helps-rescue-nine-slaves-trapped-in-brick-kiln-for-12-years[/p][p]https://www.antislavery.org/what-we-do/past-projects/india-debt-****/[/p][p]Please give what you can.[/p][p]Thank you so much![/p][p]Dan[/p][p][br][/p]
