My story

[p]In April 2018, Dan received a suspected fracture to his ankle whilst playing rugby.[/p][p]They put it into a cast for 3 weeks. [/p][p]When the cast was taken off Dan couldnt walk! [/p][p]The doctor suspected that he may have CRPS. We had no idea what this was or what this meant for Dan and how long it would last. After lots of conversations with Doctors we found out that Complex Regional Pain Syndrome is a chronic pain condition that often affects one limb usually after an injury, it is thought to be caused by damage to the nervous system. It's extremely rare in children under 10 and the outcome is unknown, more research is needed to understand the causes, how it progresses and the role of early treatment.[/p][p]Dan has good and bad days some days he's in so much pain he can't get out of bed, even blowing on his skin will cause him to scream out in pain, other days you would never know he had CRPS. Flare ups can be caused by physical pain, emotional pain and even changes in temperature. Initially he was having physio 4 days a week before school, now he's having it on as and when it's needed basis. [/p][p]Daniel's grandad has been diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer and is unfortunately getting worse, Dan is very upset by this and his flare ups are happening more and more often due to this. He has decided that he wants to raise money to go to two charities, Prostate Cancer UK and Burning Nights (A CRPS Charity). He has chosen to complete a task that is challenging for most but for someone with CRPS this could take him a year but he's determined to complete it.[/p][p] 1,000,000 steps!!![/p][p]We wish Dan the best of luck and hope he can complete it as painlessly as possible. [/p][p][br][/p]
