My story

[p]Last year October 2020 I took part in the virtual London marathon.[/p][p]I jogged/walked the 26.2 miles in the pouring rain in a storm! [/p][p]As I physically couldn’t run and I never knew why.[/p][p][br][/p][p]A few months later I was diagnosed with Addison’s disease on the 11th of March 2021. After being rushed to hospital very poorly.[/p][p]Thinking back I was probably ill for a long time before I was finally diagnosed.[/p][p]Back in March 2020 I was training for the London Marathon and I was super fit and healthy.[/p][p]By April I could feel something was wrong but just carried on.[/p][p]by June I was suffering from really bad anxiety and depression.[/p][p]My doctor offered me antidepressants which I turned down,[/p][p]They put this all down to lockdown later I would learn that this was a early signs of Addison’s disease.[/p][p]I started to notice a blackening on my lips and inside my mouth but again ignored it.[/p][p]I managed to get through till November. [/p][p]By then I realised I was hardly eating and being sick most mornings.[/p][p]The one thing I was always able to eat in the evenings was pickled cabbage and salt & vinegar crisp another sign of Addison’s disease craving pickled /salty food.[/p][p]After going to the doctors and having blood tests they diagnosed me with an underactive thyroid.[/p][p]After starting medication for an underactive thyroid I began to get even more poorly.[/p][p]I struggled for another 6 weeks until it got too much and I stopped taking the medication.[/p][p]It was another four weeks of seeing the GP and A&E visits before I was finally diagnosed.[/p][p]Looking back I don’t know how I made it through.[/p][p]I was so seriously ill and trying carrying on with my every day life.[/p][p]A few times nearly losing consciousness and passing out taking and picking up my kids from school it was a truly awful time! [/p][p]Looking back at the photos I can’t believe how sick I looked.[/p][p][br][/p][p]So this is where this amazing charity comes into it. [/p][p]The night I was diagnosed I was upset, lost, confused.[/p][p]When I came across their website sat in my hospital bed.[/p][p] It had all the answers I was looking for! [/p][p]People just like me![/p][p]People who knew exactly how I felt.[/p][p]So please help me raise money.[/p][p]So they can help more people just like me.[/p][p]It’s a scary time being diagnosed with a rare illness.[/p][p]But they help me make sense of it all.[/p][p][br][/p][p]So this year I am running/jogging maybe walking the virtual London Marathon this year not just to raise money for this amazing charity but to prove to myself that I can do it! [/p][p]That having Addison’s doesn’t mean my life is over and I have to stop doing the things I love.[/p][p]The photos below the left one was taken on the 4th March 1 week before I was rushed to hospital the photo on the right was taken 30th May 11 weeks after being diagnosed I had just run my first virtual race the vitality 10,000 😊[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p]

Danielle, We may not have seen each other since school, but I have followed your journey as you started to fall in love with running all those years ago. I know how hard it’s been to not do what you love so much. YOU GOT THIS! Xx
