My story

[p]Hi and thank you for visiting my awareness and fundraising page for Ben, the leading charity in the automotive industry, dedicated to the 800,000 people currently employed in the industry, their immediate families and for those that have been previously employed too. Ben offer services to support people in long term abscence from work through physical, social, mental and financial issues as well as providing caring facilites for those in later life at their award winning retirement village, care centres or care at home.[/p][p]Why am I running the London Marathon 2018 for Ben?[/p][p]In October 2013 I suffered a serious injury to my back resulting in having to take extended leave from work. Unknown how long this would take to resolve I went from hospital appointment after hospital appointment trying to diagnose the issue. I eventually found 2 prolapsed discs being the cause and that I would be off work for sometime.[/p][p]Eventually being out of work for so long led me to having financial issues as well as dealing with the physical issues. Unfortunately more significant things took hold that I had to try and deal with. Dealing with my back and a subsequesnt shoulder injury, financial issues....Stress, depression and anxiety took over and to the point I couldn't deal with it and I didn't know where to turn. Physical issues had been overturned by mental issues. In a very big way.[/p][p]I turned to the charity Ben who gave me the support that I cannot thank them enough for. They gave support, direction and the people that listened and totally understood what I was going through. I needed someone to listen and give the support and direction I needed to help me resolve all these issues and with the confidence to do so. It wasn't about writing me a cheque, although food banks and car repairs to allow me to travel to see my children were so gratefully provided. This was about dealing with the mental ability to cope and drive forward. Ben were there when I needed them and also proactive in themselves showing they were there for me. I went from a point of total despair to the most positive of attitudes and an ability to not only move on from where I was pre injury, to a point with a whole new focus. For this (and this is a cut down version) I really really cannot thank them enough.[/p][p]I really do urge anyone to contact Ben if they have any issues at all. They really are there to offer support you need.[/p][p]And for these reasons, I need to give something back to Ben. Running the London Marathon in 2018 is going to be a massive challenge especially due to inactivity with the physical and mental issues. I have been there before and I know how extremely tough (undersatement) it is, but, this is only part of it. I need to raise awareness of the support services on offer that Ben has given to me. Your donation will allow me and Ben to achieve this and to help so many people that are suffering with issues and are either afraid to turn to someone or just don't know they are there. Please support us.[/p][p]You can view my video case study below...[/p][p]You can also contact me on twitter @WarwickCastleDH or on Facebook. If you have any questions at all please contact me.[/p][p]For more information about Ben and their services please see ben.org.uk[/p][p]Thank you so much for reading and visiting my page. I really do appreciate it.[/p][p]Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.[/p][p]Update.... 27.01.2018. Target of 10 miles before end of January achieved!!![/p][p]New Target.... 15 miles by the end of February.[/p][p]Update...11.02.2018. 14 miles achieved in Snow, rain, sleet & gale force winds!![/p][p]Update.....thank you to all online donations and to offline donations from ....[/p][p]My colleagues at JCT600, family and friends.[/p][p]Thank you so much!!!!![/p][p][br][/p][vmgvideo class="ql-video" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/R0hXJtBPmQE?showinfo=0&rel=0&iv_load_policy=3" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true"][/vmgvideo][p][br][/p]
