My story

[p]Knowing that I was turning 45 in September 2017, I put my GCSE maths to good use and worked out that I would then be nearer 50 than 40.  I also knew that I was overweight, unfit and fairly inactive.. ok, make that very inactive!  In the first 6 months of 2017 I think I ran 2-3 times and cycled maybe 6 times, and one of those rides was to the shops.  Probably for beer.  Or donuts.  Maybe both![/p][p]Time to act!  I've always been tempted by the idea of running an ultra and thought it's now or never.  So at 7am on 21st April 2018 I'll start the Bedok Reservoir Ultra-Marathon (www.bedokultra.com), running around the 4.3km Bedok Reservoir here in Singapore for 12hrs, hoping to run 100km.. and I think I'll need a little help to get round!  [/p][p]By running for the Breast Cancer Now charity, I'm hoping that the thought of raising hopefully £1000 will keep me going through the 12hrs.  Although my mum fought and beat Breast Cancer, our friend Anne Konishi was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer and died in 2015 aged just 43.[/p][p]Triple Negative is an extremely aggressive Cancer, tends to affect younger women, is hugely underfunded and under-exposed and there is currently no effective targeted treatments.  The median survival after diagnosis is 3yrs.[/p][p]Anne's sister, Julie Ogilvie, set up the Anne Konishi Memorial Fund which has so far raised an amazing £50,000 and Breast Cancer Now (formerly Breakthrough Breast Cancer) have guaranteed that all funds raised will directly fund research into Triple Negative Breast Cancer.  Your donation, no matter how large or small, could make a difference to young women all around the world.[/p][p]if you're reading this page, it would be rude to leave it without donating wouldn't it?!  Go on, help make a difference![/p]
