[lt]h3 style="color: #000000; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10px; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: #ffffff; margin: 8px;"[gt] [p]Hi all, bonjour à tous ![/p] [p]Thank you for visiting this page, and for sponsoring my [b]first ever marathon, [span=color: #ff0000;]NOW REGRETTABLY POSTPONED TO 2016 BECAUSE OF A HAMSTRING INJURY, THE SECOND SINCE NOVEMBER 2014[/span][/b][/p][p][b] [/b]This will help the campaigning efforts of the [span=color: #000080;][b]Inland Waterways Association[/b][/span], soon to celebrate its 70th anniversary.[/p][p]IWA is a registered charity, founded in 1946, that advocates the conservation, use, maintenance, restoration and development of all inland waterways for public benefit. [b]More than 500 miles of canals and navigable rivers have been re-opened to public use since IWA was founded and there are plans to restore 500 more![/b][/p][p]I am also promoting waterways worldwide through [b]Inland Waterways International[/b], an association that was founded from IWA's international committee in the mid-1990s.[/p][p]I became interested in inland waterways at 16, when I attended the London Boat Show and bought Stanford’s Canoeing Map of England and Wales. This sparked a desire to explore the hundreds of miles of waterways that were currently available. I became an IWA member in 1968, also becoming a volunteer and participating in Operation Ashton to help restore the derelict Ashton and Lower Peak Forest Canals. I moved to France in 1976 and played key roles in the restoration of Rivers Lot and Baïse, and the reopening of the Canal de Roubaix. [/p][p]Over the years I have acted as a researcher and a waterways consultant on many projects to help protect and restore the waterways.
