My story

[p]Well, I did it! Finished in 4 hrs 46 mins 55 secs, an improvement over the last 2 years, and 17th of the 52 75 - 79 yr old taking part. Half way to my target of raising £1,000 which I must admit was being a bit optimistic considering how near the date of the race I started fundraising. A big thank you to all who have donated thus far, and to all those still to give - reach right down into your pockets and give as much as you can.[/p][p] Now in my 75th year, I was running the London Marathon for the 9th time, this year in aid of the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. My target of £1000 will be sufficient to supply one service veteran with a powered wheelchair, and I thank you for helping me to reach my target.[/p][p]In the last 4 months, I have run over 500 miles in training and this was enough to help me beat my time last year of 5 hrs. My most recent event before London was on 2nd March this year when I ran the Benidorm Half Marathon in just over 2 hrs, on 7th April I ran 20 miles around Tattenhall, my longest run before London.[/p][p]This year on 6th June we will be remembering the 75th anniversary of D Day and also this year, 80 years since the start of World War 2. Most of the veterans of this conflict have since sadly passed away, but there have been many calls on members of the Armed Forces since which have left a large number requiring welfare assistance from the Royal British Legion.[/p][p]We mostly remember past and present veterans on 11th November each year and purchase poppies to raise funds, but fundraising for the Legion is required all year round in order to provide the much needed money to enable the Royal British Legion to continue their work.[/p][p]Please help by donating as much as you are able to afford for this worthwhile cause.
