My story

[p]Encephalitis Society and the Glasgow Children's Hospital[/p][p] [/p][p]Aidan’s Story.[/p][p] On 12th March 2016 our grandson, Aidan, was taken to the doctor showing symptoms of a bad cold. Next day he was admitted the Royal Alexandria Hospital where he was diagnosed with Influenza B. 4 days later he was transferred to the Glasgow Children’s Hospital where after he had an MRI and EEG scan he was diagnosed with Encephalitis. For several days he lay there being fed my tube and wired up to an ECG monitor. At this time he was showing very little signs of responding to Antibiotics and Steroids. 6 days later he managed some movement and managed to roll over. A few days later he was able sit up with assistance. 17 days after first being admitted to hospital he was allowed home. He still continues with visits to hospital as he has been left with a slight swelling at the back of his brain. He also suffers from loss of vision in his right eye. Hopefully with time they may be able to rectify this. So after all this trauma we still have our beautiful healthy little grandson.[/p][p]Encephalitis[/p][p]Encephalitis is an inflammation of the brain. It is caused either by an infection invading the brain (infectious encephalitis) or through the immune system attacking the brain in error (post-infectious or autoimmune encephalitis). Anyone at any age can get encephalitis. There are up to 6,000 cases in the UK each year and potentially hundreds of thousands worldwide.[/p][p]My Cycle[/p][p]My cycle to raise money will take me over 1000mls around Scotland where I will visit every Scottish Professional Football Club (42 in total) My trip starts on 1st April 2019 and should last around 22 days. My intention is to post a photo of every football stadium as I travel.[/p][p]Donations[/p][p]You donation will help to support Encephalitis sufferers and their carers and 50% will also go to the Glasgow Children’s Hospital.[/p][p]Thank you[/p][p]David (A lucky Grandad) [/p][p][br][/p]
