My story

[p]I've decided to run a marathon![/p][p]Or more accurately two half marathons...[/p][p]As I'm running two events I'll also be raising funds for two great charities, LGBT Youth Scotland and Glasgow Women's Aid.[/p][p]I'll be running the Edinburgh Half Marathon in May 2020 for LGBT Youth Scotland.[/p][p]Then in October I'll take on the Great Scottish Run for Glasgow Women's Aid.[/p][p][br][/p][p]About my chosen charities:[/p][p]LGBT Youth Scotland are the national charity for LGBTI young people, working with 13–25 year olds across the country. [/p][p]They play a leading role in the provision of quality youth work to LGBTI young people that promotes their health and wellbeing, and are a valued and influential partner in LGBTI equality and human rights.[/p][p]Thier goal is to make Scotland the best place to grow up for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex young people.[/p][p]As a young gay teen I attended the Stonewall Youth Project in Edinburgh, that went on to become the national organisation LGBT Youth Scotland.[/p][p]I first called their helpline at 15 and attended youth group at 16. Youth group for me was transformative, after years of bullying, isolation and loneliness, finding other young people who had similar experiences as me, making friends and socializing for the first time with other LGBT+ young people. It was life saving, a lifeline after so much fear and isolation, growing up in a small village in Scotland. I wouldn't be here today without the support of that organisation. [/p][p][br][/p][p]Glasgow Women‘s Aid has been supporting women, children and young people who are experiencing Domestic Abuse for over 35 years. [/p][p]They offer essential support, provide information, and temporary refuge accommodation for women and children who have experienced domestic violence.[/p][p]As a child we fled my dad's violence when I was young, Women's Aid provided support and help for my family in the years that followed.[/p][p]Over the years my family has supported and fundraised on behalf of Women's Aid, in Falkirk supporting the Raise The Roof campaign to raise funds for the local refuge. In 2003 I ran the London Marathon for women's aid, raising £3000, and breaking a bone in my foot in the process. I wasn't able to run long distances for a few years after that, but I can today. So I'm more than happy to raise funds for this vital and worthy organisation, helping women and children in Glasgow who have experienced domestic violence.[/p][p][br][/p][p]I've chosen both these charities with a clear purpose. At different times in my life they have helped me and my family, and I don't think I'd be here today without them. They mean a lot to me.[/p][p]So please join me in supporting these two amazing organisations, who do great work supporting LGBT+ young people, and women and children who have experienced domestic violence.[/p][p]Raise your voice for equality, and raise some funds for two fantastic charities, doing great work.[/p][p]Much love, and thanks, David Px[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p]
