[p]Hi, thanks for visiting my page.[/p][p]In February 2016, our friends received the news that their son, Connor, a boy the same age as our daughter, was diagnosed with a form of Muscular Dystrophy called Duchenne. Duchenne attacks the muscles and in most cases mobility is lost by the age of 10. It will eventually attack the lungs and heart which will lead to shortened life expectancy. Unfortunately, today it has no cure. However, we are on a mission to #endduchenne by raising vital funds and awareness to accelerate finding a cure to save Connor and boys like him.[/p][p]Although affecting 1 in 3600 boys, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is classed as a rare disease. Around 100 boys are born with DMD in the UK every year. Worldwide, this is around 54 every single day. In total it affects 300,000 worldwide. Unlike most disorders, Duchenne occurs across all races and nationalities. There is currently NO effective treatment for the majority of those with Duchenne.......... [/p][p]There was something very touching when I heard this story. I count myself lucky every day and now I have chance to try and make a difference so over a period of six months I plan to take on at least three physical challenges to raise funds for this hugely worthwhile cause.[/p][p]My first challenge will be the Brighton Marathon in April. As many of you know, I have run a marathon before, but that won't make it any easier. Running 26.2 miles is a long way, and it's going to hurt...[/p][p]2 weeks later I will be doing the Sevenoaks Triathlon. One of the hardest local “sprint” distance events and on some very tired legs![/p][p]In June it is the MAIN EVENT. This year I will joining a team undertaking the Duchenne Dash, a gruelling bike ride from London to Paris in under 24 hours. A 250 mile bike ride with minimal sleep ending under the Eiffel Tower![/p][p]I really appreciate your support and through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to Duchenne UK. This charity will help families like Connor's with both research and support with their everyday life in the coming years. Help me make a difference.[/p][p]Thank you[/p]
