My story

[p]Thanks for taking the time to visit our page - the money we raise will be evenly distributed between the charities Niemann-Pick UK (NPUK) and Niemann-Pick Research Foundation (NPRF).[/p][p]What is Niemann-Pick Type C? - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9YxAWxxuQI&feature=youtu.be [/p][p] [/p][p]Niemann-Pick type C is a rare, devastating neurodegenerative disease that affects mostly children but also adults. Currently there is no cure and very sadly, people affected with this disease have a short life expectancy. It is an inherited disease, and therefore, in some families multiple members are afflicted. Niemann-Pick type C is a rare disease that affects all populations worldwide, with currently 90 individuals affected in the UK.[/p][p]The Charities Niemann-Pick UK (NPUK) and Niemann Pick Research Foundation (NPRF) both do amazing work on behalf of the Niemann-Pick community and help to fund research furthering scientific knowledge and treatment options. Without their work, the public awareness of this disease would be almost non-existent. Both charities also work to raise awareness and facilitate networking among scientists and doctors worldwide, and thus help develop life-saving treatments for this life-limiting disease.[/p][p]We are a group of scientists who work on Niemann Pick type C. We are going to bike, walk and canoe our way from the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Oxford to the Niemann Pick UK family conference in Wyboston Lakes in Bedfordshire. We hope to cover 60 miles by bike, 10 miles by foot, and 5 miles by canoe in about 2 days![/p][p]Our team is: Fran Platt, Ahad Rahim, Michael Hughes, Amy Geard, David Priestman, Maria Fernandez-Suarez, Dave Smith, Joseph Roney, Hsin Chen, Rafaelle Pastore, Kerri Wallom, Anyelo Duran, Lara Scofano and Allie Colaco. We will also have Dawn Shepherd and Alan Crowder as our support team.[/p]
