[p]I was incredibly lucky to receive a scholarship in 2017 that saw me overcome a fear of flying and heights that had seriously impacted on my Multiple Sclerosis and ruined travel plans.[/p][p]Flying Scholarships for Disabled People is a charity that not only teach people the art of becoming a pilot, the Disabled scholars realise a lost potential in themselves, see their confidence soar and reach new heights in their personal growth and self esteem, often gaining occupational or professional accolades.[/p][p]My flying buddy, Matthew Monaghan, has seen immeasurable benefits throughout his entire life and his newfound enthusiasm meant he supported me during my scholarship AND enabled him to fly solo!!!!!(you can watch his story via the Flying Scholarships for Disabled People website www.fsdp.co.uk) [/p][p]I would love your generosity to help another person with illness or injury to experience this dynamic shift in focus from feeling unfulfilled, unwell, negative and often simply useless to accomplishment, camaraderie, hope for the future and a lust for life.[/p][p]When I left the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) this year, I felt an overwhelming desire to challenge myself further and raise some funds for the charity, specifically the Scholars' Scholar Campaign.[/p][p]I have gained a lot of weight and my photo shows me at my heaviest ever! I therefore pledge to lose 4 stones (56 lbs) by RIAT 2019. That is over a pound a week, every week for a whole year!! [/p][p]Let's hope you will all be seeing less of me next year........[/p][p][br][/p][p]UPDATE 23rd July 2019[/p][p]I have managed to hit the target amount that I set last year and I celebrated with one glass of champagne-the first alcohol for 3 months.[/p][p]Some of you will know that I have been unable to lose the 56 pounds that I pledged to lose by RIAT 2019 however I have lost 63 pounds in total so far since Jan 2018. [/p][p]I am now asking those of you who kindly sponsored me to allow me to extend the period, so I can lose the final 7lbs required, until the end of September 2019.[/p][p]I still have that determination to succeed and I will not let this beat me. I have seen how much this charity changes lives and I want to give something back.[/p][p]Please help me get there and raise a significant sum for Flying Scholarships for Disabled People. [/p][p]Many thanks for all the kind messages and encouragement and especially to those who have been generous enough to sponsor and believe in me.[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p]
