Team story

[p]From Dean:[/p][p]My good friend passed away earlier in the year and and so I am now running a marathon to raise money for Macmillan cancer support.[/p][p]If you can’t be arsed to read anymore, that’s fine. But please click on the sponsorship link and chuck 50p in the pot. Thank you [/p][p]Katie Coxall died on the 7th May from cancer, and lots of us lost a friend who was fiercely intelligent, quick-witted, music-loving, and the best swearer on the planet. ‘Mushybees’ was also a talented animator and it was great working with her on a few film projects over the years.[/p][p]There is so much more that could be said about Katie, but you get the picture; she was a proper awesome human being and lots of people miss her, including her two sons. She was only 50.[/p][p]Cancer is rubbish, and so many of us have, and will, be affected by it. It’s not the first friend I’ve lost to it, including my Dad, and have had other friends over the years who have had it and are still fighting it. So this year I’m doing something really, really stupid to raise some money to help the situation a little. [/p][p]I’m not exactly a big fan of running. Before this year, 10k was the furthest I’d ever gone, and was more than happy to leave it there. God it’s boring. But during the second lockdown, I started running with my good friend Jon. We normally catch up in the pub, forgetting 80% of what we discussed, so we’d have to go out again. But with the pubs shut, we had to do something else. Outside, distanced, and free. Running it was. And actually, we both quite accidentally started enjoying it. And started getting a bit better at it. A marathon though, was still a universe away.[/p][p]The last couple of months have been difficult (which accounts for me not writing this before now). Being actually arsed to get out and run is a small percent of the battle. At 45 years old, going from hobbling round the block, to 26 miles, is murder. The little injuries that crop up are depressing, and with the pressure of marathon training, it’s been a pressure I’ve struggled with. It also spikes my sporadic anxiety, which I’ve had to manage quite carefully. I think all I’m saying here is “this is hard, and I’m not very good at it”.[/p][p]But, 3 weeks today (12th Sept), I’ll be running the Brighton marathon with Jon, in the name of Katie Coxall. My shirt will have the letters ‘4BEES’ across the front, and with your help, a few quid will be raised for Macmillan in memory of a really excellent human who I think of all the time, and miss very much.[/p][p]Thanks xxx[/p]
