Team story

[p]Help us to support The Soma Leo Foundation[/p][p]Two years ago, four trepid walkers undertook The Orwell 25 Mile Walk Challenge. Due to the bad weather, someone falling in a puddle, and someone losing two toe nails, it took us 10 hours to complete. Two years on just two of us have agreed to take the challenge on again, and our target is to complete it in 8 hours or under. [/p][p]We're doing this for a good cause - in support of The Soma Leo Foundation. Details of the charity can be found below. Please support us![/p][p]In 2013 the staff of Pound Gates, Sevatas and Contior started to support an Ipswich based charity called Kenyan School Fund. The Fund was running a school in Mombasa with the desire to build a new school in Nyiera, western Kenya.[/p][p]During 2014 the businesses organised two events specifically to raise funds for this new school and in November 2014 building of the school commenced. In January 2015 we established The Soma Leo Foundation and registered it with the Charity Commission as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation. Soma Leo took on the responsibility to raise the funds necessary to establish the school, invest in further phases of development and meet its ongoing running costs.[/p][p]The school is a community school, with senior members of the local community participating in decisions about how the school is run and managed. Our pupils, selected by community elders, are amongst the most deprived in the community.[/p][p]The school’s funding needs are limited, about £10,000 per year for two classroom of 60 pupils, with the primary costs being for teacher salary, food, water and electricity. The Foundation also sources or funds equipment and other items needed, pays licence fees and other miscellaneous and administrative costs.[/p][p]For more information visit http://www.somaleo.org/ [/p]
