My story

[p]I feel incredibly honoured to be joining The Jo Cox Way for a third year, taking my place among an amazing bunch of cyclists as we pedal from Cleckheaton in West Yorkshire to Bankside in London. We do this in memory of murdered Labour MP, Jo Cox.[/p][p]The bike ride is a tribute to her life and the spirit of community that exists throughout the country, in our villages, towns and cities. Despite the amazing, good things that are happening, there is also a dark, toxic element that runs through society and it seems to be growing. It certainly gets lots of media coverage and is visible on many social media platforms.[/p][p]Taking part in the ride is my way of encouraging us to celebrate all the wonderful communities that work so hard to make a difference. People matter – young, old, the lonely, those struggling with mental health, young families on the bread line, the homeless, those from different cultures and with different faiths, empty nesters, those who are retired and many who work seven days a week. We are gloriously diverse and equally important. Jo Cox had a zest for life and such passion for people. Her legacy is a wonderful inspiration to us all. . .[/p][p]The money that I raise will be donated to the Jo Cox Foundation, a charity that was set up to advance the causes that Jo championed. In her maiden speech in the Houses of Commons, she said, ‘We are far more united and have far more in common than that which divides us.’ This belief sits at the very heart of the Jo Cox Way and every cyclists wears a jersey with the wording #MoreInCommon.[/p][p] [/p]
