Team story

[p]Dehradun to Delhi Charity Run[/p][p][br][/p][p]A (Delhi) Coy is conducting a charity run where a section is collectively running the distance from Dehradun to Delhi, approximately 250km, with 16kg weight in the webbing and daysack on 08 September 2020. The event is led by Cpl Kiransingh Pariyar to mark the 163rd Delhi Day celebration in order to commemorate our forefathers during the siege of Delhi in 1857.[/p][p][br][/p][p]The Siege of Delhi was one of the decisive conflicts of the Indian rebellion of 1857. The Sirmoor Battalion of Gurkhas was posted to hold the main picquet at Hindu Rao’s house, which was the key to the British position during the Indian mutiny. The regiment held their position without relief for three months and twelve days. They were continuously under fire and repulsed no less than twenty-six separate attacks. On 14 September, the assault on the city commenced. Out of all 490 ranks, the regiment lost 327 killed and wounded. In commemoration of this gallant service, the regiment received the battle honour ‘Delhi’.[/p][p][br][/p][p]The 8 men team (Cpl Kiransingh, Lcpl Bikram, Rfn Shishir, Rfn Manoj, Rfn Chhiring, Rfn Anish, Rfn Sonam, Rfn Devendra) from A (Delhi) Coy will start running from Sir John Moore Barracks covering 250km collectively with 16 kg weight in webbing and daysack on 08 September 2020. We are aiming to accomplish the run within the duration of 5 hours using the STRAVA application to track and record.[/p][p][br][/p][p]The raised money from this event will contribute to The Royal Gurkha Rifles Trust (RGR Trust). Since 2008, the RGR Trust has provided financial assistance for Gurkha casualties, the families of those killed or wounded on operational deployment in Afghanistan and Iraq and exercises around the world. The Trust seeks to promote recovery, addressing welfare needs and reducing distress of those affected. Embracing the family values of the Royal Gurkha Rifles, the Trust provides enduring support not only to those who mostly in need but also provides educational grants for family members of our soldiers killed in action during conflicts.[/p][p][br][/p][p]We hope to raise as much as money for the RGR Trust as this has undoubtedly provided great support to our soldiers and families. We humbly request everyone to contribute in this worthy cause. Your contribution will make a significant difference.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Respectfully,[/p][p][br][/p][p]Cpl Kiransingh Pariyar and Team[/p][p]A (Delhi) Coy,[/p][p]The First Royal Gurkha Rifles[/p][p]Sir John Moore Barracks, Folkestone[/p][p]CT203HJ[/p]
