My story

[p]Greetings Everyone[/p] [p]I want to raise money for a charity which I think has all the best elements of a not for profit organisation - Malawi Foster Care - more below.[/p] [p]Having to peel my GP off the ceiling when he saw my cholesterol reading, and because my fundraising skills aren’t great, I thought I’d commit myself to a sponsored health and fitness challenge with all donations going to Malawi Foster Care. The  challenge will begin on the day after we decide to stay in Europe :) - 24th June and end on 31[sup]st[/sup] August.[/p] [p]During that time I aim to do the following:[/p][ul][li]Lose 3lb a week, which will be a total of 30lb/2 stone 2lbs by the end of August[/li][li]Not drink any alcohol during that time[/li][li]Walk to work at least twice a week[/li][li]Be only as grumpy as I am ordinarily[/li][/ul] [p]I need your help to raise these much needed and deserved funds and to help me stay on track.  Your sponsorship will help me with some extra incentive to keep up the healthy habits and in the process raise absolutely vital funds for a small but very effective charity.[/p] [p]Malawi Foster Care is run entirely by volunteers so your donation goes directly to the orphaned children the charity works with. It was set up by Katie, a primary school teacher in Liverpool who visited Malawi and found there was a severe shortage of care for orphans, particularly for young boys. Working with the local community, Katie realised an effective solution was to enable local women to foster orphaned boys in their family home. The charity now has three Malawian volunteer foster mothers who care for eight boys between them.[/p] [p]Support from the charity enables the fostered boys to attend school, have access to good health care, a nutritious and balanced diet and (most importantly) feel loved. It costs just £40 a month to provide all of this for one child, just over £1 a day, so any donation you can make will go a very long way.[/p] [p]Sadly due to the HIV pandemic many Malawian children have lost their parents and are now being brought up by their grandparents, many of whom are very fragile and struggle to even care for themselves. The foster mothers also provide an outreach programme to give care packages provided by the charity to these older people to ensure their health and wellbeing so they can continue to care for their orphaned grandchildren.[/p][p]Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. [/p][p]I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p]
