My story

[p]After a couple of failed public ballot entries, I'm very fortunate to have gained a charity place through EIC to run the London Marathon in 2018. I'm a big believer in all charities doing good so here I am, pledging to raise £1,750 to enable the EIC to continue the work they do and in return, I tick off a bucket list opportunity. It seems a win-win, right? (So, maybe win-win is an over-zealous term to use, it's mid-January, it's barely 4 degrees and the sun sets at 4pm - hardly optimal running conditions).[/p][p]As far as my "athletic" career goes, it's not very "athletic". I thought I was slightly mad turning my hand to a triathlon but quickly remembered that you get to sit on a bike for at least 90 minutes of that. Instead, in 97 days time I'll be pacing around the roads of London for 26.2 miles and as with anything I do, I've set myself a goal time to finish. If it doesn't challenge you then it doesn't change you...[/p][p]It's January 15th and I've run around 100km this year so far and I guesstimate that I'll be covering another 550km before the next twelve weeks is up. I've heard the stories, I've seen the photos and I'm sure the blisters and concrete legs are to follow. I'll keep you posted.[/p][p]So for the next 97 days I'm swapping my beloved Gin&Tonics for a lot of lycra and sweat in aid of achieving the £1,750 towards a worthy cause. Virgin Money Giving is a not-for-profit organisation and will claim gift aid on EIC's behalf.[/p][p]All support is appreciated, whether it's a fiver or joining me for a run, and if you're free on Sunday 22nd April, I'll see you at the finish at The Mall. I promise the G&T's will be on me![/p]
