My story

[p]Hi![/p][p]I'm Domi and I present Polska on Future Radio - Norwich's only Polish language radio show on Norwich's only community radio station.[/p][p]We were based at the Open Youth Trust's building in Norwich city centre, but with Open closing, we've become homeless and desperately need to find the funds to move the station and continue to broadcast.[/p][p]So I've decided to try and help. [/p][p]My husband and I have been making face masks and donating them to the NHS and local care homes, so I thought why not help Future Radio at the same time as helping front-line workers?[/p][p]So as part of the 2.6 challenge, I'm going to try and make 260 face masks in 2.6 days! The more you donate, the faster I'll work![/p][p][/p][p]Please click on the donate button and give as much as you can as Future Radio and its parent charity Future Projects are making a real difference in these difficult times.[/p][p]Since receiving our full-time broadcast licence in 2005, Future Radio has trained and supported hundreds of volunteers, hosted thousands of guests and is listened to by tens of thousands of listeners from across Norwich and Norfolk.[/p][p]We keep the people of Norwich and Norfolk entertained and informed, support local campaigns, promote a range of organisations from local businesses to charities and grassroots community groups. We are staunch supporters of the local music scene, promoting the music and events of local and visiting musicians and doing whatever we can to boost those looking to establish themselves as professional artists. Including through our Next Big Thing competition, which has been known to help launch a music career or two…[/p][p]We offer a range of opportunities for anyone that feels like they could benefit from getting involved with a working radio station as a hobby or to gain experience toward a career. Whether that’s presenting or producing shows, interviewing guests in the station or at events, or even helping out in the office. Our volunteers use their experience with us to get started with a variety of careers, many of whom now work in the media, including several radio presenters such as Greg James, the host of BBC Radio 1’s Breakfast Show![/p][p]We provide training programmes for individuals experiencing disadvantage or deprivation, such as offenders, isolated older people, young people from deprived communities or people with mental or physical health problems. Fundamentally, we bring people together from across cultural divides to improve their skills, broaden their experiences and overall form a collective voice of the community.[/p][p]We do all this as part of the charity Future Projects, which works to ensure everyone in our communities can live independent, safe and happy lives. As well as Future Radio, there is Future Support, a collection of specialist support services which help those most in need through hands-on support, advice and advocacy. Plus Future Education, a specialist independent school which engages children with complex needs in learning, inspiring them to achieve and nurturing them to become successful adults. Find out more about Future Projects here – futureprojects.org.uk[/p][p]Through the crisis, our team are working tirelessly to continue broadcasting and to support local organisations. We are keeping our listeners informed with vital updates and able to still feel part of their community, despite the indefinite social distancing measures.[/p][p]We are producing shows such as the Community Session, providing constant updates from charities, businesses and community groups. Helping businesses to bring in some customers and keeping our listeners aware of the services and support available to them.[/p]
