My story

[p]I became involved with Young Dementia UK through The Good Care Group. I have been working with people living with a diagnosis of dementia for many years. I really care about making a difference to people’s lives, those living with dementia and their families. [/p][p]My interest in young onset specifically came about a few years ago when we started supporting our first client whose diagnosis of dementia at a younger age meant the service we provided really needed to be different. Put simply there wasnt any care environment appropriate for her age or the issues she was facing. Through this I began to see how different the issues are for people diagnosed much younger and more importantly how little understanding and awareness there is. [/p][p]I now work as part of the Young Denentia Network and have gained this gift of insight into how dementia affects people. The network works hard to raise awareness and make a real difference. The Young Dementia network has a wonderful group of individual involved - professionals, people living with dementia, family carers and people who care about providing services. I am running to do my tiny bit that will not only raise money I hope but will get a few more people to realise that dementia touches so many of us....in particular for those that are contending with life changing issues before they should have to....[/p]
