My story

[p]Hello! [/p][p]My name is Donata Marshall and I am the General Manager for Gynaecology ( including the Leicester Fertility Centre) at the University Hospitals of Leicester (UHL) but more than that I am a woman in her late 40's whose dream it has always been to run the London marathon before the age of 50!! [/p][p]Why do I want to raise money? [/p][p]My marathon journey isn't just linked to me working closely with the team that I also manage in UHL and seeing the amazing benefits of this technology but like so many others, sadly I have had first hand experience of the isolation, heartache and despair infertility can bring to your life. Resulting in over 10 years of infertility treatments including 3 unsuccessful IVF treatment cycles and a devastating miscarriage. [/p][p]I have therefore made it my mission to do all I can raise as much money as possible to secure essential funds and support causes such as the Acorn appeal. I have already ran the Great North Run last year in support of Tommy's the baby charity.[/p][p]I have just embarked on a 14 week Marathon training plan which started on Christmas day! I train 4 times a week and part of this includes running the Prestwold half marathon February 2018![/p][p]This charity is very close to my heart and I am passionate and so motivated to succeed in the hope that couples do not have to experience the life changing , heartbreaking experience that I have endured.? [/p][p]Why Leicester Fertility Centre?[/p][p]Although the NHS provides excellent clinical facilities, they always need additional equipment to help improve the quality of care for patients. [/p][p] It's not just because I work here! [/p][p]Leicester Fertility Centre was established in 1990 at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. Since then, the clinic has seen many advances and changes within the field. These include the formation of our governing body?the Human Fertilisation &Embryology Authority (HFEA) and the use of new techniques such as Intracytoplasmicsperminjection(ICSI). They provide high quality treatment for both NHS and private patients, and offer arrange of fertility options.[/p][p]What they want to do:[/p][p]A.C.O.R.N (Assisted Conception Optimising & Recording of New Life) Appeal - fund number Q839[/p][p]The success of Leicester Fertility Centre is, in part, due to the centre’s use of new technology. Infertility is one of the fastest growing sciences in medicine and at the Leicester Fertility Centre we are always looking for ways to improve the quality of care we provide to our patients. [/p][p]Leicester Hospitals Charity A.C.O.R.N. Appeal aims to raise £60,000 for an Embryo Monitoring System with Time-Lapse Image Capture – a major advance in embryo culture, which benefits patient treatment and improves pregnancy rates.[/p][p]Time lapse technology allows monitoring of embryo development without the need to remove the embryos from the incubator. It consists of an incubator with a camera that records a series of images at regular intervals. [/p][p]Embryo selection is optimised as time lapse monitors the rate at which the embryo progresses from one stage to the next. The interval between stages is crucial to predict which embryos have the highest potential to implant and result in a successful pregnancy. [/p][p][br][/p]
