My story

[p]Hi everyone, a big thank you for visiting and reading my page![/p][p]I am running the London Marathon in April 2017 (eeek!) for a great cause called Best Beginnings as part of the Heads Togther campaign (William, Harry and Kate's campaign to eliminate stigma and change the conversation on mental health).[/p][p]I'm going to share with you my reasons for running and for raising money for this great charity and hope this will inspire you to part with some of your hard earned cash!![/p][p]The London Marathon has been on my bucket list for many years now. Every year I have massive admiration for, and am hugely inspired by those that take on the challenge, and pound the streets of London. I've only got one marathon in me and it had to be London! It probably won't be quick, and it definitely won't be pretty, but it will be a finish![/p][p]I am a big believer in the power of excercise in whatever shape or form that floats your boat.  There is the obvious impact on physical wellbeing, but the less obvious yet huge contributor to mental wellbeing is so important. For me, the partnership between the London Marathon and Heads Together sends a very powerful message around the positive impact of exercise on mental wellbeing.[/p][p]I looked at the fantastic charities that are part of the Heads Together campaign, and I was soon drawn to Best Beginnings. It is a national charity working to reduce inequalities and give all children the best possible start in life. It is focussed on the critical window of opportunity between conception and a child's third birthday when the foundations of physical and emotional development and language are laid. Evidence shows that supported, confident parenting supports school readiness and social mobility. Supporting mothers and fathers at this time isn't only important for the new mothers and fathers, it has a lasting impact on the mental health of their children.[/p][p]The campaign, Heads Together, is about ending the stigma and changing the conversation on mental health. In life we often focus on our physical health and wellbeing and we should give our mental health and wellbeing equal attention. To thrive in life we need both to be in the best shape they can be. We should not be afraid to pay attention to our mental wellbeing, and we should not be afraid to seek help and talk when we are facing mental ill health.[/p][p]Mental health is an issue that is very important to me. I'm running this for all of those out there that have suffered in any way, shape or form with their mental health and hope to encourage everyone to pay attention to their mental wellbeing. I also hope that we really can start to change the conversation around mental health.[/p][p]My mum is no longer with us, the most amazing mum, who faced her own problems in life. I dedicate this run to her, and know she'll be with me every step of the way. [/p][p]Thank you for taking the time to read this, and if you can spare any of your hard earned money, no matter how big or small, it would be hugely appreciated by me and all of Best Beginnings in the great work that they do! Any amount you can spare, will make a huge difference to supporting the mental wellbeing of mums and dads out there, and ultimately helping give some little people the best possible start in life![/p][p]If I can make a difference to just one family, then it will make all of the miles worthwhile![/p][p]Thank you, [/p][p]Donna [/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p]
