Team story

[p]Exeter City FC, The Supporters Trust, Exeter City Community Trust, The Junior Grecians and Supporters Clubs are holding a Charity Family Fun Day in aid of Exeter City Community Trust and Reverse Rett. Full Details on our Event Facebook Page[/p][p]This page is for those who would like to support our charities but are unable to attend the Family Fun Day on June 23rd. Donations will be split equally between the two charities.[/p][p]INTRODUCING OUR TWO CHARITIES:[/p][p]Exeter City Community Trust[/p][p]Exeter City Community Trust are Exeter’s leading health & wellbeing charity working in partnership with Exeter City Football Club.[/p][p]They deliver inspiring physical activity, education, health and wellbeing programmes and courses primarily across Devon and Somerset for all members of the community regardless of ethnicity, age, gender, physical ability, background or economic status.[/p][p]A full-time staff of 30+ and a casual staff of 70+ (supported by around 25 volunteers) are delivering on the frontline daily spending around 22,000 hours out in the community every year striving to improve life chances for all, often in the most deprived areas of Greater Exeter and among the most disadvantaged groups in our society.[/p][p]While football is their beating heart, work in the community has grown to extend far beyond. The health, education, wellbeing and physical activity programmes reach over 45,000 members of the community each year and around 48% of those programmes are not football. The spread of their work is growing all the time.[/p][p] “We want everyone to know you don’t have to play football, support football … or even like football … to benefit or participate. We are open and accessible to all, young and old, whoever you are, whatever your ability or background.”[/p][p]Exeter City Community Trust Website[/p][p]Reverse Rett[/p][p]Rett Syndrome is a neurological condition which most often strikes previously healthy little girls between their first and second birthday and leaves them with multiple disabilities and medical complexities for life.[/p][p]Most people with Rett are unable to speak, walk or use their hands. Breathing problems, feeding tubes, seizures, anxiety, gastrointestinal and orthopaedic issues are common.[/p][p]Research has shown that girls with Rett do not have brain damage. They know and understand much more than their bodies allow them to show - but they are locked in, trapped by a body that cannot obey signals from their brain.[/p][p]Whilst there is currently no treatment for Rett Syndrome, there is hope. In 1999 scientists identified the genetic mutation that causes Rett Syndrome. In 2007, they unexpectedly reversed the condition in mouse models of even late stage disease.[/p][p]Our research efforts are now focused on translating these research developments into treatments and cures for our children living with Rett Syndrome today.[/p][p]Reverse Rett is a UK medical research charity working to speed treatments and a cure for Rett Syndrome.[/p][p]Rett Syndrome has already been reversed in the lab. We work to drive these promising lab developments into tangible treatments and a cure for people living with Rett Syndrome today.[/p][p]Reverse Rett is the only UK charity currently funding research focused on treatments and a cure for Rett Syndrome.[/p][p]Reverse Rett exists to accelerate treatments and a cure for Rett Syndrome.
