My story

[p]ETC is a UK registered charity with the mission to empower young women in East Africa by providing education & training that makes them more employable. [/p][vmgvideo class="ql-video" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/A3dnYTOK8Zg?showinfo=0&rel=0&iv_load_policy=3"][/vmgvideo][p][br][/p][p]Although Africa has a relatively small % of COVID-19 deaths (although this is rising) it will have 50% of the global population being pushed aggressively below the poverty line as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) predicts 29 million Africans could be pushed into extreme poverty. Given that so far the crisis in Africa is more economic than it is health, programs related to economic empowerment have become even more necessary. With UN projections showing Africa as having the world’s largest potential workforce, larger than both India and China, education and training are critical to ensuring the future of not just the Continent, but the interconnected world we live in.[/p][p]We are continuing our work online where we can. In Uganda, we are training young women in coding, and linking them up with an ecosystem of further training, internships and jobs. However, in other places, such as the Masai Mara - highly sparse villages and lack of infrastructure has meant that the focus, for now, is on survival. Our secondary school with boarding facilities has had to shut down and our girls have had to go back to extremely unsafe environments where they are facing hunger, sexual abuse, FGM, teenage pregnancies and child marriages. Our teachers and ambassadors are providing mentorship (on teenage pregnancies, menstrual hygiene, FGM, career path) & support (such as sanitary towels - this vital need is being ignored as families are focused on food) where they can. [/p][p]Please support us and donate today! Just £15 could provide a girl with a package of reusable sanitary towels for 4 years. And £350 could support a young woman into work, so that she is able to break the cycle of poverty for herself, her children and future generations. [/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p]
