My story

[p]✨So here's "My Story"....[/p][p]In September 2009 we were given the devastating news that our beautiful son Ethan had been diagnosed with Tay-Sachs Disease.. we were told there was no cure, no treatment and that all we could do was make his short expected life comfortable.[/p][p]As you can imagine this turned our world upside down!! we didn't know what to do, what to say..we had already started to grieve... this is when we were introduced to Children's Hospice South West (Little Bridge House). Throughout Ethan's short life we had respite stays at Little Bridge House which enabled us as a family to create beautiful everlasting memories and also to help us support Ethan's older brother Callum through this devastating time.[/p][p]Ethan passed away very peacefully at home with us on the 3rd July 2011 aged just 2 years, 11 months. We were immediately helped by Little Bridge House. They travelled down to collect us all and took us to our "safe place" to allow us the time to accept his death and assist us with his funeral arrangements.[/p][p]Even though you anticipate, you can never be prepared for the death of your child and a whole whirlwind of emotions take over. Being at Little Bridge during this time enabled us to really focus on each other, on Callum and to prepare for our life without Ethan. We will be forever grateful for the short time we had with Ethan and for the love and support Little Bridge House offered us. Treatment and care you can't put a price on! and we are forever grateful for their support.[/p][p]I have always wanted to run the London Marathon, I've grown up watching it every year on the tv, this year I turned 40 and always said I would do it before then. I've entered the public ballot over several years and been unsuccessful every time so kind of gave up hope of ever fulfilling that bucket list item. Although I'll openly admit I'm not what you would call a professional runner or even a serious runner, but once I set my heart on something I do it![/p][p]I entered the ballot for a charity place with Children's Hospice South West not expecting to get in, but after the panel read my story they have given me a place!!! 🥰[/p][p]I have taken part in various events for charity, The Great South Run, the Commando Challenge and have previously run the Plymouth Half Marathon 5 times for Children's Hospice. In 2016 I encouraged a team of over 25 to complete the Half Marathon for CHSW 25th Anniversary and ran myself after officially starting the race with my husband. I have taken part in the Bubble Rush events with my Son Callum all in Ethan's Memory.[/p][p]I know my friend's and family think I'm crazy for doing this, but it makes me more determined to prove to everyone I can! My son didn't get to experience much in life and I always promised him I would make every moment count and experience as much as I can, in his memory. It will give me great privilege to do this, not just for myself but for him and all the other families who go through this awful experience of short and precious lives...[/p][p]Please support me in any way you can, whether you sponsor me, cheer me on or share my story..every little bit will help me get to the finish line![/p][p]Nicola xx[/p]
