Team story

[p]Thank you for visiting our Virgin Giving page. During lockdown we took up road cycling to keep fit and to get us out of the house! We both decided it would be great to have a challenge and we have decided to cycle from Pangbourne to Padstow over a 3 day period commencing on the 5th July 2020. We will start from Pangbourne College - where Rory is at school - and we will be cycling over 350km, climbing a total of 3,785 metres. [/p][p]An integral part of the challenge is to raise money for two charities important to us.[/p][p]Firstly, The HUGE Partnership, a UK registered charity which supports a primary school known as the Nabugabo Community Learning Centre in South West Uganda, set up as an NGO in 2012 to provide free education to vulnerable and disadvantaged children who without the opportunity of NCLC would not go to school. The school now has 125 children, 12 staff and last year 10 children successfully completed their Primary Leaving Exams and have moved to a local Secondary school supported by HUGE. Pangbourne College actively support HUGE and NCLC, not only through fund raising activities but have also undertaken two school trips to Nabugabo, Uganda to work at the school and in the local community. 100% of all donations raised go direct to the school and local community. There are no administrative charges.[/p][p]Secondly, The Royal National Lifeboat Institution, which is a world leading emergency service which saves lives at sea. In addition to their 24/7 search and rescue lifeboat service, they operate a seasonal lifeguard service. Every year, their volunteer lifeboat crews and lifeguards help and rescue thousands of people and importantly, they are 100% reliant on fundraising and volunteering. Lockdown dramatically halted fundraising events which they rely on to power this amazing lifesaving service. Yet lifeboat crews have never stopped being on call 24/7, ready and willing to save lives and since the end of May, the lifeguard service roll out began to look after the beaches which are expected to be busier than ever as people choose to holiday at home.[/p][p]We have spent many holidays near Padstow, our destination and it therefore seems very fitting for both of us to choose the RNLI as our second charity.[/p]
