My story

[p][img][/img]I failed miserably last Christmas to put up some fairy lights and consequently got to ride in an ambulance quite quickly to the local hospital. Serious men in white coats frowned a lot and I spent the next 7 months quietly realising that that I will never walk again. [/p][p]This was a massive blow but the support I had from my family and friends has been beyond extraordinary. The government too, has been of huge support and, of course, the nursing staff at Brighton and the spinal unit at Salisbury were, quite frankly, magical. Over that period of time, we patients develop close relationships with the angels that care for us so that after discharge, there is a gap in our lives. I miss them. [/p][p]Nevertheless, life continues and my wife is everything. I owe a debt to her and my children (and spaniels) without who's unfaltering support, I certainly would not have made it this far. [/p][p]I still cry in the quiet of the night but there is also much to live for.[/p][p]I'm not quite sure why I'm doing this absurd event. Someone said they thought I was trying to prove something to someone but those who know me will quickly realise that it was the result of a boozy lunch. [/p][p]Three people every day are told they will never walk again and the spinal charity, Aspire, are there to help pick up the pieces of their lives.[/p][p]They provide practical advice and support, housing if you need it, equipment and so much more.[/p][p]Please help me give something back.[/p]
