My story

[p]After three years of trying I finally have a place in the London Marathon! Slightly later than expected with a late entry place, but a place none the less. The reason I am running is to raise money for a charity that is very close to my heart. My uncle died of a rare brian disease, sporadic CJD, a few years ago. It is a shocking disease that causes a rapid deterioration of brain function and leads to loss of intellect and memory, a change in personality, slurred speech, loss of visibility, loss of mobility and ultimately death. In my Uncle's case this all happened in a matter of weeks before he passed away causing distress to himself and all the family. Knowing there was nothing anyone could do to treat the disease was the worst part. The longest people live with the condition is only a year. There is no cure.[/p][p]The reason I have chosen to run for the Brain Research Trust is that they actively fund research into CJD. Last year they funded two PhD Studentships researching CJD and related prion diseases. This research is hugely important as to date the cause of sporadic CJD is still unknown. The Brain Research Trust receive no Government funding so every penny of what they spend on research comes from people kindly donating to people like me.[/p][p]Please donate what you can. Every donation big or small will make a difference to the charity but will also help me with my motivation for my training. I would love to see as many familiar faces along the 26 mile route on the 23rd April too. Friends and family who have run the marathon in the past have said how helpful support on the day is in getting round the course.[/p][p]I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p][p]Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.[/p][p]Thank you[/p][p]Ed[/p]
