My story
[p]As I sorted through my emails the other night The Duchenne Dash AT HOME email popped up. I gave it a quick scan through and was about to delete it when something stopped me. I am not sporty, I am definitely not fit and I can't even comprehend how participants on previous years have cycled from London to Paris! For the last couple of months when our routine has been so different I have walked every day with my two children, Evie aged 5 - occasionally walks but more often scoots or cycles and Alexander age 1, in the buggy. Now I am thinking what is to stop me walking a little bit further every day and doing something good for this excellent charity so I have pledged to walk 300km (the distance between London and Paris) between now and the 13th June. [/p][p]The main photo above shows me, Evie and her friend Isaac. It was their 3rd birthday and because they were born on the same day, we decided to have a shared party. Isaac was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy a few months after this party, age 3. Evie and Isaac are now 5 and if the world returns to some sense of normal will be starting school in August. I would be so grateful if you were able to support my pledge and in doing so support the excellent work of Duchenne UK.[/p][p]A short message from Duchenne UK:[/p][p]Two families a week in the UK are told that their child has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), a devastating muscle wasting disease that mainly affects boys.[/p][p]DMD is a desperately cruel disease. It's the most common genetic killer of children worldwide. Children will be totally paralysed by their teens and many won't live beyond their 20s. [/p][p]There is no treatment or cure. But thanks to recent breakthroughs, and with your help, we believe we can save them.[/p][p]Duchenne UK are an ambitious and highly focused charity, investing millions of pounds in research right now to bring treatments and a cure and to help this generation.[/p][p]Please help us to END DUCHENNE.[/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to Duchenne UK. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p]
