My story

[p]I have chosen Leicester Hospitals Charity, specifically the paediatric Cystic Fibrosis team as my Staunton Harold Sailing Club Commodore's Charity for 2018. All our friends will know that my youngest daughter, Poppy was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at 5 weeks old. She was treated at Leicester paediatric CF unit until her transition to the adult unit at Glenfield earlier this year.[/p][p]We would like, with your help, to say a big thank you to her team at the LRI and to support them in helping other families in the way they have supported Poppy and us. To do this we are aiming to raise around £3500 this year to buy a NIPPY clearway machine for the CF team at the LRI.[/p][p] This piece of specialist equipment allows CF patients to be able to effectively clear their chests during a chest infection without needing to stay in hospital. Poppy has often been at the sailing club helping other people learn to sail whilst using this machine several times a day at home![/p][p] The NIPPY Clearway is portable and can be easily used between different patients as it can be cleaned effectively to prevent cross infection, something which is extremely important in CF. It has dual uses and can be used with children that have a weak cough, as well as lots of secretions and can be used not only in hospital but also in the patient’s home and school. This means children can complete their physiotherapy without it having too much impact on their schooling and family life. Without the use of one of these machines our lives would be impacted much more significantly by her health. We would love to help the hospital support more families to continue treatment at home.[/p][p] [/p]
