My story

[p]We've done it! And we'd love your support in reaching our fundraising target. You can help to empower people in communities of northern Malawi, to tackle the root causes of poverty and transform their own futures, sustainably, and by building self-reliance.[/p][p]A message from Eloise, having completed the Temwa Black Mountains Trek 2019:[/p][p]On Saturday 12th October, along with my dad, Matt, we completed an amazing and beautiful 25k trek in the black mountains to raise money for Temwa, a charity which is based in Malawi. You can see the photos below![/p][p]On Sunday, the day after the trek, I was lucky enough to meet Kondwani Banthu such a lovely man who works alongside my auntie Jo Hook in Malawi. He spoke to me about how as little as £1 from us can pay for 20-30 schooling books to be provided, then distributed within communities and households.[/p][p]Kondwani told me that this Thursday a female hostel will open on the grounds of a school providing up to 60 beds for students to sleep in. This means they will not have to make 2-3 hour walking commutes to school each morning and night. I was shocked to hear that many girls choose to just sleep on the streets of nearby villages so that they will make it to school on time each morning. Please have a read of the story below to learn more about what Temwa have achieved over the years. This includes the planting of 1.5 MILLION Trees!! ?Even £1 has a beautiful impact !!! Thank you![/p][p]------[/p][p]My amazing auntie co founded Temwa, a charity based in Malawi in which focuses on improving the quality of life of those less fortunate. In the last 15 years Temwa have worked with communities and planted over 1.5 million trees. They have trained over 3500 farmers in sustainable agriculture. This means that there are 24,500 people who now have a sustainable food source all year round. Previously their families had to deal with an annual famine which consisted of a small meal every other day. [/p][p]Temwa also runs health education programmes, they work in twenty schools running health clubs for youth. These have a strong focus on HIV and aids and improving young people’s knowledge on the disease and therefore prevention and stigma reduction.[/p][p]Temwa run both early grade literacy projects helping primary school students improve their reading and writing skills alongside bursary projects supporting students to attend secondary school.[/p][p]You may recognise Temwa from attending summertime festivals. Temwa run phone charging facilities, lost and found facilities and information at greatly loved festivals such as boomtown and shambala. [/p][p]Over 3000 households in Malawi have benefited from the clean water filters provided by Temwa.[/p][p]---[/p][p]You can find out more by watching the 15 year anniversary video: https://vimeo.com/266467955[/p][p]Or this 1 minute video about the incredible impact a water filter can make: https://vimeo.com/261316565[/p][p]---[/p][p]Thank you SO much for your support![/p]
