My story

[p]In September I will be taking on the challenge of completing 75 miles of the North Cornish coast path in a long weekend. [/p][p]The North coast of Cornwall is stunning and I have been so lucky to grow up with it on my doorstep, the coast path is a fantastic place to walk but it also very hilly and parts of it provide some challenging terrain. I will be starting in Port Quin and finishing in St. Ives.[/p][p]I am raising money for two charities that are very important to me and that do fantastic work – The Eve Appeal and The Rob Stephenson Trust. If you would like to donate and help support the brilliant things that these charities do then you can do so here.[/p][p]Thank you! :) [/p][p]A little bit more about the charities I have chosen to support:[/p][p]The Rob Stephenson Trust[/p][p]Rob had so much fun being part of local sports teams that we wanted to put something back so other young people could also enjoy these opportunities. We were fortunate enough to have the time and money so that Rob and he could participate fully in the local sports teams. Not all people are that fortunate and we hope the Trust will enable some more young people to be able to participate and enjoy the friendship and camaraderie that sport brings. Rob was never a super star but he was one of those players that all clubs and teams need – a 100% commitment and effort player.[/p][p]The trust collects unloved and second-hand equipment and sends it abroad to places where it can be put to good use. The fund will also be available to support those individuals closer to home, and also local clubs that need help to improve their facilities. [/p][p]So far we have supported causes in over 10 countries from cricket in India to rugby in Brazil. We have also supported a number of different local clubs in and around the local community. To see all the projects we are involved in please look at our website via the link below.[/p][p]The Eve Appeal[/p][p]The Eve Appeal is the only UK national charity raising awareness and funding research into the five gynaecological cancers – womb, ovarian, cervical, vulval and vaginal.[/p][p]We were set up to save women’s lives by funding ground-breaking research focused on developing effective methods of risk prediction, earlier detection and developing screening for these women-only cancers. Our charity has grown and developed in parallel with our core research team, the Department of Women’s Cancer at University College London (UCL), taking place in 31 institutions across 15 countries.[/p][p]We have played a crucial role in providing seed funding, core infrastructure funding and project funding in addition to campaigning to raise awareness of women-specific cancers.[/p][p]The world-leading research that we fund is ambitious and challenging but our vision is simple: A future where fewer women develop and more women survive gynaecological cancers.[/p][p]I will also be fundraising offline and the money collected will be donated to The Louise Hartley Memorial Fund.[/p][p]The Louise Hartley Memorial Fund[/p][p]Louise Hartley was a dairy farmer’s daughter and Newcastle Agric who worked for the Farmers Guardian from 2013, she was also a leading member of the Clitheroe Young Farmers Club and was regularly involved with the Lancashire Holstein Young Breeders. Sadly, Louise passed away on July 1st, 2016 at only 24 after a short but unbelievably brave battle with a very aggressive and rare form of ovarian cancer. [/p][p]Before her death donations were made to help fund Louise’s pioneering treatment and even after she died donations continued. When the treatment couldn’t save her, Louise’s family decided to do something good with the money and set up the Louise Hartley Memorial Fund to help young people with an interest in livestock farming develop their careers, as well as donate to the Eve Appeal, a charity researching and supporting Gynaecological Cancers.[/p][p][br][/p]
