My story

[p]Who are NEWCIS and who is a Carer?[/p][p]A Carer is someone who looks after a loved one. The challenges can be physical, emotional, sometimes financial, and come with a great deal of unacknowledged sacrifice. [/p][p]There are 3million carers looking after a loved one in the UK, juggling their caring role alongside their job. Can you imagine that demand? [/p][p]370,230 of those carers are caring here in Wales. 1 in 5 of the carers around us have given up their employment to care. What do you think they do when their no longer need to care? [/p][p]How does it impact you? 3 out of 5 of us will become carers in our lifetime. That's three in every five of our friends, colleagues and family members. If you employ staff, 3 in every 5. Do you know how to support them?[/p][p]There are at least 376,000 young carers aged between 16 and 25 among us. How do you think this impacts school, university, carers and work?[/p][p](Statistics from https://www.newcis.org.uk) [/p][p]Did I mention these carers are unpaid? Carers are saving our economy billions of pounds every year and quite often they don't even realise they are caring - it is just one of those things you do for a loved one. [/p][p]My name is Emily and on 28 April 2019 I will be running the London Marathon for NEWCIS, a charity who essentially keep our unpaid Carers, caring. [/p][p]I joined NEWCIS as a trustee in 2017 and this has given me the opportunity to get to know a bit more about a caring role, a world I knew little about beforehand. I have also got to know the workforce at NEWCIS who are committed, experienced, and all motivated by one aim - to support Carers. [/p][p]NEWCIS are there to help keep those carers caring by providing support and guidance throughout their caring journey, and beyond. [/p][p]NEWCIS provides support groups, respite and breaks away. They help take care of the carers wellbeing, provide holistic therapies, education and training on a variety of matters. They guide and support with medical appointments and complex financial matters. NEWCIS also guide employers to support carers in the workforce. [/p][p]NEWCIS is quite often an essential lifeline and only a phone call away. [/p][p]Please visit www.newcis.org.uk to find out more. Please listen and look out for carers among us and make sure they know NEWCIS. [/p][p]Thank you for your interest and for your support - whether you have donated, ran with me, handed out marathon tips or shared the word of NEWCIS - keep it coming :) [/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p]
