My story

[p]I'm running the Royal Parks Half Marathon on Sunday 14 October 2018 to raise money for MIND UK. You could say I'm losing my mind for MIND, because it's potentially the most insane decision I've ever made. [/p][p]When I was 13 I faked a blackout in my school sports day 300m race because I was THAT miserable. When I was 16 I nearly broke up with my boyfriend when he suggested we go on a beach run together because it turned out he actually meant running and I thought he meant looking at runners while we ate ice cream. When I was 22 I got a bit more into exercise because I lived in Clapham and people looked like superheroes there but the only way I managed to get round the park was by chasing the ice cream van. [/p][p]In the last few years though (I’m now 27 - God help me) things have changed and I actually really like putting my trainers on, and more. At the start of my 20s I got a bit (a lot) anxious. It was rubbish. I got some therapy. That helped. But at the moment I still feel pants fairly often. I'm working on it. [/p][p]I find it really easy talking and writing about anxiety and mental health - running is a lot harder. So I thought it could be fun to give myself a physical challenge, to prove I can do anything, to look after my body as well as I look after my cactus, and at the same time raise awareness. I’ve still never run longer than 10k and that’s only happened once. I have a LONG way to go but that’s why you all need to give me some money. [/p][p]I’m raising funds for MIND UK – an incredible organisation helping to fight the stigmas surrounding mental health and give support to those in need. There is a lot of shame and silence surrounding mental health issues and it breaks my heart. I firmly believe these things don't make you weak - they make you strong - although we'll see how strong I'm feeling at mile 12, I may take that back. [/p][p]Thanks for reading. You can visit my blog www.24dilemmas.com where I’ll be documenting all the fun behind my training and more. SEE YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE. x [/p]
