My story

[p]In July I am completing two events for Thomas' fund. The first is an Outlaw Half Ironman in Holkham, Norfolk on July 3rd which entails a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike ride and 13.1 mile run. Then on July 31st, I will be cycling the RideLondon100, a 100 mile route starting in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, heading out through Surrey, and finishing on The Mall in London. [/p][p]Thomas was my friend's eldest son who died in November last year aged 4. Thomas was a bubbly, happy little boy with an infectious and cheeky smile. It was heart breaking to see him battling cancer. His parents, Nicky and Nat, are quite remarkable; they were and continue to be inspirational, staying strong and upbeat for Thomas despite all the sadness and uncertainty during his illness.[/p][p]Please see the Thomas' fund campaign page for more details. Brain tumours kill more children than any other cancer and yet receive less than 1% of the UK national spend on cancer research. Conventional therapies for brain tumours have had limited efficacy over several decades with consistently poor survival rates and severe side effects. Over 60% of children who survive a brain tumour will be left with a life-altering, long term disability.[/p][p]Training for a half ironman is probably my most ambitious physical challenge yet as it's pretty gruelling on both mind and body. Juggling work commitments with training and fixing punctures is proving no mean feat. My Lycra collection has increased exponentially and I'm often guilty of clearing the shelves of my local Sainsbury's of fig rolls and porridge oats! [/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to the charity. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p]
