My story

[p]This October I want to help Countryside Mobility South West get moving![/p][p]I'm Em Flint and I work for a wonderful organisation called Living Options Devon, which works to make sure Deaf or disabled people have the same opportunities and choice as everyone else. A big part of that is the freedom to move independently as you choose. Countryside Mobility helps people to access attractions and nature in the South West, with trampers, training, and consultancy. This means that friends, couples, and families can enjoy a day out all together, with no-one left at home or sitting in the car park.[/p][p]As the nights draw in it's easy to get glued to the sofa, so I'm challenging myself to try 10 different styles of dance this October instead! I am not a dancer by any means, and like a lot of people I have gained some timber during lockdown... so this is a real challenge to be brave, have some fun with my body, and not worry about making a fool of myself.[/p][p]I am fortunate to have a decent range of physical mobility, and am studying to be a Somatic Therapist. I'm so interested in how movement helps our general wellbeing, especially how moving in new and creative ways can change our mood and inspire us.[/p][p]I wanted a really wide range of dance styles, especially things I had never tried (or perhaps even heard of) before, to see if I can move in ways I've never considered. So I asked my friends for their ideas... I had dozens of suggestions, but have narrowed them down to the ones I have either never tried, or feel excited about trying again.[/p][p]Here is my list:[/p][p]Belly dance (tribal)[/p][p]Bhangra[/p][p]Flamenco[/p][p]Hip hop[/p][p]Industrial[/p][p]Jazz[/p][p]Lindy hop[/p][p]Khatak[/p][p]Samba[/p][p]Zydeco[/p][p]I'm learning all of these using YouTube tutorials and will do an hour of each throughout October (more if I find one I really enjoy!)[/p][p]Please support Countryside Mobility South West if you feel moved to get more people moving for pleasure and fun - we all need as much of those as we can get. Thank you![/p]
