My story

[p]In February 2018, when my daughter Niamh was 17 years old, she had a seizure completely out of the blue. Her GP & Consultant suspected it was a one off due to the circumstances that she was in at that time but as a precaution she was told to give her driving licence up for 6 months. In August of 2018 Niamh had her 2nd seizure which appears to have been triggered by similar circumstances. With that, her Consultant confirmed that that Niamh is epileptic. Since then she has had a few more including a cluster of 5 in a period of 6 hours.[/p][p]Until then my knowledge of epilepsy bordered on ignorance, although I was very much aware of SUDEP, but since Niamh having it confirmed I have done some further research.[/p][p]Epilepsy affects around 600,000 people in the UK. This means that almost 1 in 100 people in the UK have epilepsy. Around 87 people are diagnosed with epilepsy in the UK every day.[/p][p]In the past I have run for The Heart Foundation, SUDEP and The Trussell Trust but this year I intend to run The London Marathon and the Liverpool Marathon, all in aid of Epilepsy Research UK. [/p][p]My running is a small gift to help Epilepsy Research UK, your support is the greatest gift of all. We can judge our society by how we help others and be thankful for those who give what they can.[/p][p]I do have an ambitious target but Heraclitus once wrote "Big results require big ambitions".[/p]
