My story

[p]Thank you for visiting our fundraising page for Walk the Thames 2018.[/p][p]Our team so far is Rachel Sullivan, Kat Butler, Richard Butler, Karolin Wagner and Alastair Prince (4 running).[/p][p]Our team is fundraising for The Free Representation Unit (FRU) and all funds received by LLST from this page will be donated to FRU.[/p][p]FRU provides free representation in Employment, Social Security, and Criminal Injury Compensation Tribunals.[/p][p]Every year we help over 500 people. Our clients are often vulnerable and their cases involve vital issues concerning their livelihood and income. They are not eligible for Legal Aid and cannot afford a lawyer. FRU helps make sure they have access to justice.[/p][p]We do this by training and supporting between 300 and 400 volunteer representatives each year. Most of our volunteers are in the process of training as lawyers (or recently qualified) so they get invaluable experience helping our clients under the supervision of our Legal Officers.[/p][p]As a charity we are reliant on the generosity of those who fund us as well as the goodwill of our volunteers.[/p][p]So we are walking on October 27th to raise some of the funds needed to maintain the service. The walk is a marathon or 1/2 marathon depending on our stamina and it will probably be cold and/or wet![/p][p]Please sponsor our walkers as generously as you are able.[/p][p]Every penny you give will make a real contribution to the service we offer the public.[/p][p]Many thanks for your support[/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p]
