My story

[p]My name is Simon Coates, and between 1st March 2021 and 31st October 2021 I will be undertaking the challenge to hike 2000 miles in aid of 16 charities whose work is close to my heart. I am aiming to raise at least £1000 for each of the charities I am supporting, and these funds will make a real difference in enabling the charities to continue their work and survive the extremely challenging times we find ourselves in.[/p][p]You can find out more about the challenge and keep track of how I am getting on on my website (), by joining the challenge Facebook group () or by following me on Twitter ().[/p][p]FareShare[/p][p]FareShare is the country’s only national food redistribution charity –unique in its reach and capacity to handle vast quantities of all types of food, particularly fresh, chilled and frozen products. In the year to March 2020, FareShare provided food for 57 million meals to almost 11,000 charities. They use surplus food to support vulnerable people ranging from isolated older people at community lunches to schoolchildren at breakfast and afterschool clubs, and people at advice and resource centres and homelessness shelters.[/p][p]FareShare has a UK-wide network of warehouses, food partners and charity members as well as relationships stretching from grass roots charities and community groups to government.[/p][p]FareShare food connects people in need with the interventions that address the root causes of hunger, rather than just the symptom. A hot meal may be what brings someone who is struggling to a support centre, but they get more than just comfort and nourishment, they also find the people and services that can help them get back on their feet.[/p][p]The impact that the incredible amounts of food they are able to redistribute, and the charitable services they are able to facilitate is evident on the small scale – a hungry person getting the food they need – and the grand: FareShare saves the UK economy approximately £50.9 million every year. A small organisation with a huge impact, support for FareShare at any level is magnified by our network and makes a huge difference to hungry and vulnerable people across the UK.[/p][p]You can donate to this campaign in aid of FareShare between 25th February 2021 and 31st January 2022, and anything you can donate will give invaluable support to allow the charity to continue their work.[/p][p]If you would prefer to send a cheque to the charity, you can write to them at the following address - please do include a cover note telling them your donation is as a result of my hiking challenge:[/p][p]FareShare UK, Unit 7 Deptford Trading Estate, Blackhorse Road, London, SE8 5HY[/p]
