Team story

[p]Hi, and thanks for visiting our page. [/p][p]Every year since 2004 two hundred people have set out from Euston by train late one evening, with the objective of climbing Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis, the highest mountains in Wales, England and Scotland.  It takes us about 36 hours to do this.[/p][p]We do this to raise money for the Railway Children, a charity that supports street children, and especially the kids who are abandoned in , or who runaway to, railway stations.  The Railway Children has now run this event ten times , most recently on June 21st / 22nd / 23rd this year, and has raised over a million and a half pounds from it.  As the rail industry sponsors most of the costs of the event the sponsorship almost all goes to help the kids.[/p][p]The event is carried out in teams of three or four people.  This year our team was Andy Savage, doing his tenth climb (he's the only person to have done it every time),  Andrew Fisher on his third, and new boy David Wightwick. To date our sponsors have pledged and given us over £5,000, plus Gift Aid, , which with the £53,000 raised in Andy's previous climbs is bring our total tantalisingly close to raising £60,000 over the ten events that Andy's taken part in.  We reckon that another £500 will do it.  [/p][p]This year's climb was one of the toughest ever, and we got soaked on each montain: in fact, we were one of only three teams to actually reach the top of Scafell Pike, so abysmal were the weather conditions.  Please help us to reach our 2012 target, and to get beyond that £60,000 total, for this most worthwhile of charities.  Through Virgin Money Giving, your donations will be quickly processed and passed to the Railway Children.[/p][p]Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on the charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. [/p][p]We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p]
