My story

[p]In 2021, I have set myself a personal challenge of running two half marathons in close succession – one in the North and one in the South. I will be running the 40th Great North Run on the 12th of September and the Oxford Half Marathon on the 17th of October. I can assure you that this is a stretching [img][/img]target for me as I only started running in my 50’s. In fact, if you had told me 4 years ago that I would be taking on this challenge, I would have laughed at you. [/p][p]For this challenge, I wish to help fundraise for a small but award-winning charity based in Oxfordshire called Yellow Submarine.[/p][p]This charity is very close to my heart as I have seen the enormous support, they have given to my dear nephew James from a youngster. He has benefitted enormously from the activity programmes, clubs, and residential holidays growing in confidence as he has got older. [img][/img][/p][p]Yellow Submarine believes people with learning disabilities and autism deserve to live life to the full. Through various projects, their work help build confidences, self-esteem and independence for their members whilst also providing respite for families and carers. Everyone is treated as an individual and through fresh and innovative ideas help make a real difference to members lives.[/p][p]I have witnessed their work over the years and particularly the fabulous team who over the last 18 months continued to provide throughout the lockdowns, an innovative and fun filled service to its members online, a lifeline for many families. [/p][p]Yellow Sub is unusual in the world of charities in that with the same team of staff they assist young people on their journey through childhood into adulthood. This allows them, often over many years, to gain both trust and a real insight as to how best to create a person-centred plan to support each individual.[/p][p]The Yellow submarine team continue to have such a positive impact on James, so I wanted to give something back to them and help fundraise, so James and others continue to benefit from their fantastic, innovative work. [/p][p]Please go to their website to see so much more of the great work they do. [/p][p]Your support and donations are greatly appreciated. Reaching my fundraising target will help me get through the pain barrier I know I am going to encounter. [/p]
