Team story

[p]Aviva Investors are climbing Mount Toubkal (4,167 metres) in Morocco to raise money for two charities close to our hearts within the CASCAID initiative.[/p][p]CASCAID brings together colleagues from around the asset management industry (and friends and family) to raise money for charity. After a successful 2017, when we topped £2.35million for Cancer Research, CASCAID is now fundraising for SUDEP Action and GOSH.[/p][p]For Maisie[/p][p]One of our colleagues, James Tothill, tragically lost his daughter Maisie to Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy this year.[/p][p]Maisie had been suffering from occasional epileptic seizures for 3 years and was undergoing further diagnosis as to the underlying cause and correct treatment. On Friday 25th January 2019 Maisie went off to bed as happy as she always was, but tragically she suffered a seizure in her sleep and sadly didn't wake up on Saturday morning. Maisie was just 22 years old.[/p][p]Maisie was truly loved by everyone who knew her and everything was all set for her to have a wonderful future. She had a wide group of lovely friends, an insatiable appetite to learn and discover all wrapped in a strong sense of justice. The overwhelming theme of the tributes that have poured in since her sad and untimely death refer to her as 'beautiful inside and out' and to the fact that she was always smiling. Maisie graduated from Leeds University last summer with a degree in Politics, which was one of her many passions. She was an ‘intern’ at Cambridge Institute of Sustainability Leadership at the time of her passing. [/p][p]There are at least three epilepsy-related deaths a day in the UK. SUDEP Action is dedicated to raising awareness of epilepsy risks and tackling epilepsy deaths including Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy. They are the only UK charity specialised in supporting and involving people bereaved by epilepsy. SUDEP Action, registered charity 1164250 (England & Wales), SC047223 (Scotland).[/p][p]Please help us make sure that something positive comes out of Maisie’s tragic death.[/p][p]Great Ormand Street Hospital (GOSH)[/p][p]Every day, 619 children and young people from across the UK arrive at GOSH. Every day, doctors and nurses battle the most complex illnesses, and the brightest minds come together to achieve pioneering medical breakthroughs. And every day is a chance for you to make a difference.[/p][p]This extraordinary hospital has always depended on charitable support to give seriously ill children the best chance to fulfil their potential. A better future for seriously ill children starts here.[/p][p]Our challenge[/p][p]Mount Toubkal is the highest mountain in the Atlas mountains and the Arab world. For some background on our challenge, view this YouTube video. The team of 23 will be completing the challenge from the 18th May - 21st May 2019. All donations will be split equally between the charities. [/p]
