My story

[p]Thank you for visiting my page. My challenge this year was to complete 150, 200 and 300km Audax bike rides against the clock. The 150 and 200k rides took place over the first weekend in May so giving me a test before the big one three weeks later. All three of these rides are quite hilly with the last having an ascent of 4800m or nearly 16,000 ft for those who don't do metric. [/p][p]I have now done all the rides and I'm still alive even though my heart rate appears to have gone over 175 bpm at times! I assume it was a glitch in the transmitter. The first ride to Amulree was made difficult by quite strong headwinds  and the second, the Deeside loop had increasingly stronger winds over the day and then heavy rain for the highest section past the Cairnwell. In fact the wind was against from Banchory to Braemar to Forfar for all but a very small proportion of that distance. I must admit that on the Monday after my legs really felt that they had had a workout! My hope that there was no wind for the Snow Roads on the 25th seemed to have been granted as the weather was very kind - particularly as the Lecht road was closed two days before the ride by snow. [/p][p]It was cold in the morning as far as Cairn o'Mount and then again after Braemar but inbetween it was quite pleasant with temperatures that managed to get up to 19deg (the bit above 20 in the graph was while my bike was sitting in the sun outside the Coffee Pot cafe in Dufftown). My desire to finish before midnight was rather dashed as it was getting on for one o'clock before I arrived in Forfar. Clicking on the highlighted links above will connect to RidewithGPS and show you the record from my GPS for each ride.[/p][p] Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to [span=color: #000000;]Water[/span][span=color: #00ffff;]Aid[/span] and [span=color: #ff0000;]RedR[/span]. Please have a look at their websites and see what they will do with your money. [/p][p]Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p][p]ps Watch out for next year's challenge that is in the early stages of planning - a trip to the four corners of mainland Scotland in a trip just as long as Lands End to John o'Groats![/p]

Well done, Fraser, you make me feel ashamed to have an e-bike! SOme of those 'hills' are terrifyingly high - good for you. But maybe next year you could sub-contract the publicity beforehand? Just a thought :-)
