Team story

[p]The past year has been incredibly difficult and emotional for us both, with the loss of Siobhan’s brother Kevin and Lisa’s Dad Terry. [/p][p]Through difficult times and our grief we continue to find strength to support each other and those around us. We've recognised kindness that others give that we can too easily take for granted, which is why we're raising money and awareness for three fantastic charities to help ensure those in need have access to support and information during difficult times. We are completing a number of challenges throughout 2019 to do this and we're also being supported by our Intercity Technology colleagues :-) [/p][p]In January we completed a Winter 10k walk (14km was our actual distance!) in memory of all those no longer with us and supported RED January to move every day. [/p][p]In February, we supported the ‘Time to Talk’ Day, Siobhan completed the 'Fly Like An Eagle' Half Marathon and Lisa completed the Gladiator 20k. [/p][p]Our Springtime challenges were Marie Curie’s Great Daffodil Appeal, for which we completed a 28km Rutland Water hike, and our own Non-London Marathon - a 26.2 mile hike in Rutland. [/p][p]May was a special month that we dedicated to Kevin - we supported Miles for Mind (25 running miles) and Mental Health Awareness Week.[/p][p]In June we ran 75km throughout the month to commemorate 75 years of the D-Day Landings. In addition to our chosen charities, we also supported the British Legion.[/p][p]Throughout the Summer and into Autumn we increased our shopping trips for the Rutland Foodbank - thanks to cash donations from colleagues and friends we were able to help more when our local Foodbank found itself extremely low on stock.[/p][p]Into Winter and we completed Parkruns and a fun Santa Fun Run with friends and family, while shopping regularly for Christmas Hampers and regular stock for the Rutland Foodbank.[/p][p]We have had to postpone our conquering of Snowdon, but we will be completing this in 2020.[/p][p][br][/p][p]The charities we have chosen are: [/p][p]Mind - the mental health charity: advice and support for anyone experiencing mental health problems and campaigning to improve services and understanding. A great source of information and support for many of our family members and ourselves. [/p][p]Marie Curie: care and support for people living with terminal illness and their families. Marie Curie provided exceptional overnight nursing care for Lisa’s Dad in his last days.[/p][p]The Trussell Trust: a network of over 400 foodbanks providing emergency food and support to people in crisis. We also directly support our local foodbank (Rutland) with a monthly shop. If you’d like to donate to our monthly shop instead please contact us as that fund is separate to this donation page.[/p][p]Our colleagues at Intercity Technology's Oakham office have adopted the same charities for 2019 in support of our challenges and tuck shop sales and other charitable event proceeds will be donated.[/p]
